UNC Health Blue Ridge Celebrates Signing Day for Future Healthcare Heroes
MORGANTON, N.C. (December 11, 2025) – UNC Health Blue Ridge recently hosted a “signing day” to welcome four high school graduates who are beginning their careers in healthcare. These students participated in the OPT In program — a two-month paid summer experience designed to introduce young people to healthcare careers and inspire the next generation of caregivers.
This summer, nine students completed the OPT In program and were recognized by the state and UNC Health Blue Ridge as Pre-Apprentices. Of those, four have officially “signed on” to continue their journey with Blue Ridge. Jennah Reynolds and Siashi Xiong will pursue radiology programs beginning in 2026, while Elizabeth Tiguila Mejia and Yesenia Melisa Mendoza Rodriguez will enter the CNAI program this spring and advance into nursing.
These milestones represent more than career choices; they reflect a shared commitment to caring for our neighbors and strengthening the future of healthcare in our region. “With 18 students currently in apprenticeship programs, UNC Health Blue Ridge is investing in local talent and building a workforce that understands and loves the community it serves,” said Cindy Cross, supervisor of the OPT In program. “Together, we’re shaping a healthier tomorrow, right here at home.”
