Sports Medicine Team Partners with Burke County EMS to Advance Athlete Safety
The UNC Health Blue Ridge Sports Medicine Team recently welcomed Burke County EMS for a collaborative training session focused on athlete assessments and the safe removal of athletic equipment. The event took place on Tuesday, Oct. 7, and included five EMS professionals, Dr. Adam Street, the program’s medical provider, and members of the sports medicine team.
This initiative highlights our ongoing commitment to community health and safety. By working closely with local emergency responders, we aim to ensure that athletes receive the highest standard of care during critical moments. “It is highly recommended to have a joint training with our EMS providers and athletic trainers, to be prepared for an emergency event, particularly with equipment-intensive sports such as football and lacrosse,” said Allison Duckworth, MA, LAT, ATC, Manager of Sports Medicine. “It also allows us to review our Emergency Action Plan procedures with EMS providers across the county and opens the communications between our sports medicine program and EMS.”
Plans are already underway to host another event in the spring, continuing our efforts to strengthen emergency preparedness and promote wellness throughout Burke County. “I am excited to continue with these events and trainings so that we can continue to provide the best care to the student athletes of Burke County,” Duckworth said.
