The Blue Ridge HealthCare Foundation has received a $250,000 grant from The Duke Endowment to expand the Burke Health Network, a community network of care for low-income, uninsured residents of Burke County.
Burke Health Network (BHN) coordinates resources for residents between 18-64 who are uninsured and living below 200 percent of the Federal Poverty Level. “We help people with medical care, behavioral health care, and person-centered care,” said Deedra Epley, Director. “We want to make sure that all residents of Burke County have an equal opportunity for access to care and improved health outcomes and quality of life.”
BHN collaborates with Burke Recovery, Burke County Health Department, Burke County Department of Social Services, Catawba Valley Behavioral Health, A Caring Alternative, Burke United Christian Ministries, Good Samaritan Clinic, High Country Community Health Clinic (Morganton and Valdese), Compassionate Hearts Clinic, and UNC Health Blue Ridge.
“We have several team members to help network members in the enrollment process, determine and make appropriate referrals, and track personal health data for outcomes and evaluation,” Epley said.
Epley said she is grateful the Blue Ridge HealthCare Foundation helped secure the grant and appreciates the cooperation from UNC Health Blue Ridge in being a partner agency.
Traci Riebel, Blue Ridge HealthCare Foundation Executive Director, stated, “It is rewarding to receive this funding from The Duke Endowment to assist Burke Health Network with their strategic efforts to help those within our community receive health access and drive healthier outcomes. Thank you to The Duke Endowment in supporting this focus and the BHN efforts.”
The Duke Endowment works with health systems and their community-based partners to identify, test, and spread innovative practices that have the potential for scale and sustainability. Priority is given to models that build capacity to provide essential health and social services to underrepresented communities.
