UNC Health Blue Ridge’s Dietary Services has been named Account of the Year for Morrison Healthcare’s Clarke Region Division.

The team, consisting of about 40 full-time and part-time employees, will now be eligible for the national account of the year award. During the presentation, the team was noted as having the best patient satisfaction scores throughout the UNC Health system and having no safety claims. Other accomplishments were:

  • All test trays passed quality inspections
  • Tier One Engagement Score
  • Average health inspection score of 98.0%
  • 22% increase in retail sales over previous year
  • 11% increase in overall meals
  • Opened a new coffee shop

Morrison Award Presentation 2023“The coffee shop has gone great and been a success for us,” Dreibelbis said. “Our bestsellers are the shake and bake and caramel macchiato.” He encouraged visitors to stop by for a sample of the several kinds available.

Contributing to the increase in overall meals are the popular Taco Tuesdays and Throwback Thursdays, Dreibelbis said.

UNC Health Blue Ridge hospitals have also won regional account of the year in 2019 and 2021. Last year, Grace Ridge Retirement Community’s Dining Services won account of the year for its division.

Morrison’s hospital division is known as Compass One and Dreibelbis said there are six core values the team has met or exceeded. They are:

  1. Be well. “We focus on employees to ensure they are in a good spot to continue our purposeful work,” Dreibelbis said.
  2. Be Regulatory-Ready at All Times
  3. Love Patients. “That means taking care of patients and their families,” he said. “We cater to you.”
  4. Unleashed Talent. “We encourage our employees to develop and have a career trajectory,” he said. “We were able to promote several employees this year.”
  5. Own Finances
  6. Retail Excellence by Delivering Flavor

Catering is also part of the award. Last year, the team delivered 450 plates for Blue Ridge HealthCare Foundation’s gala. “There’s a lot of logistics that go into catering something like that,” Dreibelbis said. “We did about that many plates this year, too, for the gala.”

“This team consistently works hard to deliver the best,” said UNC Health Blue Ridge Chief Operating Officer Jon Mercer. “We have excellent staff and chefs who truly care about our patients and seeing that they are fed excellent food. They also take great care of our teammates who dine here daily. This award is a great accomplishment and I’m so proud of my team.”
