Avery was named the top Facility Manager. “I was completely shocked when I received word that I had been named a Healthcare Design HCD 10,” Avery said. “I am incredibly humbled and honored.”

Each year, HCD meticulously reviews dozens of nominations, highlighting achievements from the past year and recognizing those who have not just contributed to meaningful projects and initiatives but have truly stood out in their respective fields.

Avery and her invaluable contributions at UNC Health Blue Ridge will be featured in the September issue of Healthcare Design magazine and online. The 2024 HCD 10 will also be celebrated in person during an awards gala at the upcoming HCD Forum, which will take place Sept. 4-6 at The Lodge at Spruce Peak in Stowe, VT.

“I began my career in healthcare construction in 2004 and have been receiving Healthcare Design Magazine since then,” Avery said. “I read this publication each month, and I find inspiration for our projects through the evidence-based design strategies shared in many of its articles. Through this magazine, I have kept up with healthcare design and construction trends and best practices in the healthcare design industry.”

“With a remarkable 20-year tenure at Blue Ridge, Deanne has led our largest construction projects to date,” said Jon Mercer, Chief Operating Officer at UNC Health Blue Ridge. “I’m proud of all she has achieved. She is a rising star and a true leader.”

Avery’s journey began in 2004 when she spearheaded the completion of the 2007 Expansion and Renovation Project. This transformative project added 58,389 square feet for our Outpatient Services, including the Ladies Health Pavilion, Diagnostic Services, Imaging Center, Medical Records, and Administration.”

Her leadership extended to supervising the 71,267-square-foot Medical Office building on the Morganton Campus, the 25,860-square-foot Morganton operating room addition in 2017, and this year’s addition of a 219,121-square-foot six-story patient tower building.
